Short Summary
The horticulturist training programme lasts three years. The gardener learns about ornamental plants and the most common types of fruit trees and vegetables. They must know how to raise and care for them, how to harvest them and how to prepare them for sale. He/she shall also keep abreast of new developments on the market. The gardener working with the tractor must have passed the tractor test. If he works with plant protection products, he must have passed an examination in plant or phytomedicine.

Learning outcomes
Certificate holders will be able to: plan and organise their own work, independently perform technological procedures of ornamental plant and vegetable production based on a horticultural production plan, produce, tend and protect ornamental plants and vegetables, taking account of growth factors and environmental protection principles, produce seedlings and grafts for sale in accordance with the required standards, design, arrange and maintain green areas, perform work with horticultural machinery, devices and tools, observing the regulations on safety at work, make simple calculations and sell horticultural crops, products and services, cooperate in a group and communicate with co-workers, use information and communication technology to search, process and evaluate data in their work, act responsibly at the work place to ensure their own safety and health at work and to protect the environment, Elective: propagation and production of ornamental herbaceous and woody plants, arrangement of green areas and installing constructed elements under a plan, production of specific types of vegetables outdoors and in protected premises, propagation of trees and grapevines and cultivation of tree and grapevine seedlings, construction, planting and tending of simple constructed elements, maintenance of recreational and sports green areas. Certificate holders supplement their key vocational knowledge and abilities with key general knowledge in line with national standards.
