Rearers breed and care for all kinds of animals and produce various livestock products. They produce and procure fodder and feed, fatten and breed animals. They prepare animals for the market, train them, maintain farm buildings, machines and equipment, take care of the hygiene of animals and their housing. In addition, they produce, store and send to the market livestock products (eg meat, milk, eggs, honey, wool, feathers, fur). Rearers breed and groom horses, cattle, pigs, sheep, goats, dogs and cats. They raise domestic poultry, such as chickens, hens, ducks, geese and turkeys. They breed, reproduce and care for animals in animal sanctuaries, stables, zoos, circuses, research institutions, animal habitats and game farms. In their care are animals such as pheasants, quails, ostriches, parrots, wild fur animals (rabbits, chinchillas), all kinds of animals in zoos, bees and animals for laboratory tests (guinea pigs, rabbits). In their work, livestock farmers use means for maintaining animal hygiene (e.g. brushes, shovels, water, detergents and disinfectants), devices for the production of fodder and fertilizers, machines for feeding, watering, milking and reproduction, and machines such as incubators, heaters, fans and scales. Additional aids are used to test the quality of livestock products, such as milk tests, test tubes and microscopes. Livestock breeder jobs may include supervision of unskilled workers and participation in the planning and organization of animal breeding and production of livestock products.
