Alpplicants must be over 21 and in receipt of a Social Protection payment for at least 6 months before starting the course.

On completion of the course, students can avail employment opportunities in garden centres, parks, and estate garden maintenance, or start their own landscape design and gardening business. Students may progress to institutes of technology for further studies.
