As part of the educational program for gardeners, the student learns to recognize different types of ornamental plants (balcony flowers, potted plants, cut flowers, ornamental shrubs and trees), and the most common types of fruit trees and vegetables. He must know the ways of growing and caring for them, as well as the ways of preparing them for sale. Gardeners who work with a tractor must have passed a tractor driving test. They must know how to observe and monitor plants, their color and growth, so as not to overlook possible signs of nutrient deficiency or signs of disease or pest attacks. The protective agents that are sprayed must be prepared in the appropriate concentration, so that they do not harm the plant or cause an excessive, i.e., harmful amount of remaining pesticides in the food. When working with plant protection products, they must be very careful, so as not to poison themselves or endanger and pollute the environment.

The job of a gardener is very diverse and covers different areas of work. The gardener grows and sells various types of ornamental plants, flowers, trees, fruits and vegetables. He/she arranges lawns in parks and sports fields, gardens, green areas surrounding various institutions, cemeteries, etc. A gardener that grows ornamental plants and flowers, sows them, propagates them, transplants them, fertilizes them and protects them from diseases and pests. He/she propagates ornamental shrubby plants and fruit seedlings in nurseries and plants them in parks, gardens and all over the homesteads. For beautiful growth, abundant flowering and good fertility, prune, fertilize and supplement them. Seedlings of ornamental shrubby plants and ornamental trees are being prepared for sale. Vegetables are sown and grown until sold, mostly in protected areas such as greenhouses, glasshouses or covered beds, but also outdoors. He sells seedlings or transplants them to the fields. A gardener's work includes growing lawns, which includes preparing the ground for sowing grass, sowing grass and maintaining the grass surface. An important area of the gardener's work is the protection of plants from diseases, pests and weeds. For this purpose, he uses phytopharmaceuticals for plant protection. The gardener must know the regulations on safe work with such tools and know how they affect the environment. Different gardening machines, devices and tools are used in the work.
